Judge Torack retired on pension May 3, 2007. On April 26, 2007, the New Jersey Supreme Court entered an order assigning Judge Eward V. Torack to another 2 years of service (as a "recall" judge) effective May 3, 2007.
Judge Edward V. Torack made international headlines when he presided over the child-custody case of Spanish mother Maria Jose Carrascosa. Judge Edward V. Torack jailed Maria Jose Carrascosa after he ruled that she had violated New Jersey law by refusing to return her daughter to the United States from Spain. The father of the daughter sought custody of the couple's daughter in New Jersey after Maria Jose Carrascosa left their daughter in the care of her grandparents in Spain.
