Judge Michael J. Naughton is a Superior Court Judge in California
Judge Michael J. Naughton was born in Chicago Illinois. Judge Michael J. Naughton attended Loyola University of Chicago (AB P1 Sc 1962)
and De Paul University College of Law (J.D.1965). Judge Naughton was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1965 and the
California Bar in 1969. Judge Michael J. Naughton is also admitted to US Supreme Court of Military Appeals, and the U.S.
Judge Naughton was an attorney Certified as a Specialist in Family Law by the State Bar of California,
July 1980. Judge Naughton was formerly a Municipal Court Judge in 1978. Judge Michael J. Naughton was in private
practice from 1969 to 1978, and from 1979 through May 2002. Judge Naughton was appointed to Orange County
Superior Court in April 2002. Judge Michael J. Naughton served on active duty in the United Stated Marine Corps from
1965 until 1969. Upon release, Judge Naughton served in the Reserve of the United States Marine
Corps until his retirement in 1992 with the rank of Colonel. He is entitled to wear the
Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Twenty Year Reserve Service Medal,
and the Republic of Viet Nam Unit Cross of the Gallantry.
Judge Michael J. Naughton has written two articles for the local bar journal on Family Law and has served as
an instructor for various seminars sponsored by the Orange County Bar Association and
the State Bar of California. He was formerly the president of the Family Law Institute
and Continuing Judicial Studies Program of The Administrative Office of the Courts in
2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.
In 2006, he was the recipient of the J.E.T. Rutter award for outstanding
contributions as a jurist during 2005, from the Family Law Section, Orange County Bar
Association. In January 2007, he was named the Orange County Family Law Jurist of the
