Judical Biography:
Commissioner Scott M.Gordon has served on the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 2002. While sitting in the Family Law Department, he presided over several high profile cases garnering international media attention, including the Britney Spears case. He previously served for 16 years with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office where he was a founding member of the Stalking and Threat Assessment Team and was responsible for policy and legislative issues relating to child abuse, domestic violence and sex crimes. In 1997, Commissioner Gordon was one of three U.S. prosecutors selected to serve as a Legal Specialist for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Hague, Netherlands. A 1980 graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills, he spent the early years of his career as a police officer and detective for the Santa Monica Police Department while attending Southwestern, where he completed his law degree in 1985. Commissioner Gordon returned to his alma mater as a popular and highly respected member of Southwestern's adjunct faculty in 1990, and for over 17 years has taught Family Law, Community Property, Trial Advocacy, Advanced Criminal Procedure, Forensic Evidence, and the Criminal Response to Terrorism Seminar. He was recognized with the law school's Adjunct Professor Excellence in Teaching Award in 2003. Commissioner Gordon is the recipient of the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women "Humanitarian of the Year" award, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association's "Prosecutor of the Year" award, among numerous other commendations. His book, with A. Abella, Shadow Enemies: Hitler's Secret Terrorist Plot Against the United States, was published by Lyons Press in 2003.
